When I told my friends I am running, they automatically assume that I have finally decided to take the plunge and run for elected office. When they heard I was actually running, as in jogging, they were stunned.
The decision for me to start running stems from a decision to put a friend to shame by beating her time in the NYC Marathon by an hour. Was it a stupid decision to say that I could accomplish such a feat without knowing my friend's time? Without a doubt. However, I was relieved to learn that she post a finish time of over six hours, a time that is more than beatable.
My training began on December 1, when I got my feet and stride measured at the Asics store in New York City. I discovered that I pronate and needed shoes with a good amount of support. So, armed with my new Asics and a Nike+ running chip off I went to train for the NYC Marathon.
Since starting in December, I have run ten races (nine of them scored) and found myself improving left and right, repeatedly sought the advice of a friend and colleague that is an elite runner (the guy runs 5:12 miles), developed injuries that are just outright painful and watched as my body has changed to resemble a Greek god.
This blog is devoted not to my political views, nor my snarky observations, but rather to what I can best refer to as my own journey as I go from running nothing to completing a marathon and beyond.
